This song was based on Nat King Cole's "Brazilian Love Song (Andorinha Preta)", first recorded in 1959. The original "Andorinha Preta" was a Portuguese song written by the Brazilian artist Breno Ferreira in 1932. Nat King Cole's version was an adaptation of this Portuguese song. The same tune had been used earlier in the Hindi film song "Zindagi Mein Pyar Karna Seekh Le" ("Phool Aur Patthar", 1966). Asha Bhosle lent her voice to both these Hindi film songs, released more than thirty years apart.[1][2]
