Trivia

  • Gourov - Roshin recreated this song for the film "Kaabil" (2016).[1]
  • Amitabh Bachchan's costume in this song was one of the highlights of this film. He wore a suit that was fitted with many small bulbs. The bulbs were controlled by a switch which Bachchan carried on his person and operated to synchronise with his dance steps. It was Amitabh who had come up with the idea of this suit. He had seen the actor Robert Redford wear a similar suit in the Hollywood film "The Electric Horseman" (1979). Amitabh Bachchan had also suggested the location at which this song was shot - the newly built Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indoor Stadium in Calcutta.[2]
  • The film's cast and crew had a harrowing experience while shooting for this song. The crowd in the stadium in which the song was being shot had gone out of control and become violent. While trying to leave the location, the car in which Amitabh Bachchan and Neetu Singh were travelling broke down. The actors feared the worst but realising their predicament, the crowd calmed down and pushed the vehicle up to their hotel.[3]
  • This song was recreated for an advertisement by Phillips India in 2013. In the ad, Ranbir Kapoor wore a jacket fitted with LED bulbs similar to the suit Amitabh Bachchan wore in the original song sequence.[4]
  • While shooting in Calcutta for this song, Neetu Singh had gotten homesick as she was missing Rishi Kapoor, with whom she had gotten engaged recently. Seeing her in tears, Amitabh Bachchan had asked her what the matter was. When he heard about her plight, he talked to the producer and had her sent back to Bombay. The rest of the song was shot with Amitabh only. It was due to this that Neetu Singh wasn't part of the entire film sequence for this song.[5]
  • In an interview, writer and actor Kader Khan claimed that this song and some other portions of the film were directed by him.[6]
