Trivia

    Album

  • This was the first of a two-part film. Director Anurag Kashyap shot the entire film in one, seven-month stretch. Considering its long runtime - 5 hours 20 minutes - it was decided to split the film into two self-contained parts. The first part was released in Jun 2012 and the second in August 2012. Encouraged by the audience response, the first part was re-released in August, with some theatres running both parts back to back with a gap between them. Both parts of the film premiered in May 2012 at the Directors' Fortnight section of the 65th Cannes International Film Festival.[1][2][3]
  • Anurag Kashyap credited the Tamil crime drama "Subramaniapuram" (2008) as the inspiration behind this film.[4]
  • Zeishan Quadri wrote the story for this film with the objective of landing an acting role. A native of Wasseypur, Quadri's story for the film was adapted from real-life incidents. The story was then developed into a screenplay over several months. Quadri ended up choosing a relatively minor acting role in the film since he felt that asking for a major role would be unfair. He appeared in the second part playing the role of Definite, the third son of the character played by Manoj Bajpayee.[5]
  • Writer, director Tigmanshu Dhulia debuted as an actor in this film. It was also the debut film of actors Huma Qureshi and Anurita Jha.
  • Chief Assistant Director Sohil Shah died while shooting the film in Banaras. He accidentally drove a four-wheeler off a bridge while filming for a scene and died on the spot. The film opened with a dedication to him.[6]
  • Sneha Khanwalkar travelled in Bihar for a few months and also visited Trinidad and Tobago to get ideas for the film's music.

    Song

  • Jiya Ho Bihar Ke Lala Jiya Tu Hajar Sala - This was Manoj Tiwari's debut Hindi film song. Despite Anurag Kashyap's insistence, Tiwari, a popular singer and actor in Bhojpuri films, did not accept a fee for this song. He went on to be elected as a Member of Parliament in 2014.[7]
  • I Am A Hunter - This song was based on a musical genre called Chutney music that was created by Bihari migrants in the Caribbean by combining calypso and Bhojpuri music.[8]
  • Teri Keh Ke Loonga - This was the first film song Amit Trivedi sang for a composer other than himself.
  • Loonga Loonga - This song was a mashup of two other songs in the film - "Ae Jawanon" and "Teri Keh Ke Loonga".
