Santosh Anand debuted in Hindi films as a lyricist in “Purab Aur Paschim” (1970) directed and produced by Manoj Kumar. The soundtrack of the movie was set to music by Kalyanji-Anandji. His big moment came in 1974 when the song “Main Na Bhoolonga” (“Roti Kapda Aur Makan”) became a big hit.
In 1981, Santosh made a comeback with one of the two big productions, “Kranti”, again produced and directed by Manoj Kumar. The next year, the audiences were treated to what was to be his most memorable work in the song “Mohabbat Hai Kya Cheez” (“Prem Rog”). Both these movies had Laxmikant-Pyarelal as their music directors.
Santosh conitnued to write through the 80s and 90s, albeit sporadically.
He won the Filmfare Award twice, once for “Main Na Bhooloonga” (“Roti Kapda Aur Makaan”) and again for “Mohabbat Hai Kya Cheez” (“Prem Rog”).
