Trivia

    Album

  • Although not credited, this film was based on a play with the same title, written by Imtiaz Ali Taj in 1922. The play was the basis of other Hindi films as well, including "Mughal-E-Azam" (1960).[MR14]

    Song

  • Yeh Zindagi Usi Ki Hai - I - Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan played the sitar in this song.[MR6]
  • Yeh Zindagi Usi Ki Hai - I - This song was inspired by the song "Murtimant Bheeti Ubhi" from the Marathi play "Sangeet Sharada" (1889). The Marathi song was composed and written by the play's writer Govind Ballal Deval.[1][MR3]
  • Yeh Zindagi Usi Ki Hai - I - Upon hearing this song, Hindustani classical vocalist Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali had this to say about Lata Mangeshkar's singing - "Kambakht kabhi besuri nahin hoti." ("She never sings out of tune."). Pandit Jasraj, who was with the Ustad at that time, recounted this story in an interview.[MR7]
  • Yeh Zindagi Usi Ki Hai - I - Music director P. Shamanna reused the tune of this song for the Kannada film song "Indinadina Mana Kanti Shanti" ("Gandharva Kanya", 1955).
  • Aa Jaan-E-Wafa (Kehte Hain Jise Pyar) - Producer S. Mukerji initially approached C. Ramchandra to compose music for this film but he declined when Mukerji insisted on Geeta Dutt singing all the songs for the film's heroine. The filmmaker then approached Basant Prakash who recorded this song for the film before excusing himself due to health issues. This ended up being Basant Prakash and Geeta Dutt's only song in the film. S. Mukerji then went back to C. Ramchandra, who signed up for the film on the condition that he could use Lata Mangeshkar's voice instead of Geeta Dutt's. His songs for the film ended up being considered some of his best work ever.[2][MR3]
  • Mujhse Mat Poochh Mere Ishq Mein Kya Rakha Hai - This song may have been the basis for Ravi's tune for the song "Badle Badle Mere Sarkar Nazar Aate Hain" ("Chaudhvin Ka Chand", 1960).[3]
  • Jaag Dard-E-Ishq Jaag - The first line of this song's mukhda was an adaptation of a line written by Hafeez Jalandhari - "Jaag soz-e-ishq jaag". The song's first antara was also adapted from the same poem. The original lines that inspired the antara were "Tune aankh band ki kaaynaat so gayi / Husn khudpasand ki din se raat ho gayi / Zard pad gaya suhag jaag soz-e-ishq jaag".
  • Yeh Zindagi Usi Ki Hai - II - C. Ramchandra had trouble composing the tune for the antara starting "Sunayegi yeh daastan". He then asked Roshan, who happened to be in the studio, to help him out and it was Roshan who composed the tune for this antara.[MR7]
