Trivia

    Album

  • The plot of this film was adapted for the Telugu film "Thodu Needa" (1983), the Tamil film "Kanmaniye Pesu" (1986) and the Kannada film "Suvvi Suvvalaali" (1998).
  • This was the first time writer and lyricist Gulzar and actress Raakhee worked together in a film. They would work together in one other film after this - "Rudaali" (1993). Gulzar and Raakhee had gotten married in 1973 and separated a year later.[1]
  • This was director Ramesh Talwar's second consecutive film with Raakhee after his debut film "Doosara Aadmi" (1977). When he approached her for this film, he told her that if she chose to play the role of the younger sister in the film, he would get Nutan to play the elder sister. However, Raakhee chose to play the elder sister in the film and recommended Rekha for the younger sister's role.[2]
  • Some of Rekha's scenes in this film had not been shot when its shooting schedule was about to end. Director Ramesh Talwar was worried about it since Rekha followed a disciplined work schedule from 9 am to 8 pm. To his relief, Rekha sensed his concern and offered to work an extra day to finish her scenes.

    Song

  • Jahan Pe Sawera Ho Basera Wahin - The tune of the song's opening line was taken from a Bengali non-film song composed and sung by R.D. Burman - "Phire Esho Anuradha" (1969). The rest of the song may have been inspired by it as well. Burman had used the composition of "Phire Esho Anuradha" earlier for the Hindi film song "Saajan Sajna Re Saajan Kahan Jaoongi Main" ("Jaise Ko Taisa", 1973).[3][4]
