Trivia

    Album

  • This was the Hindi-dubbed version of Mani Ratnam's Tamil film by the same name.
  • Mehboob made his debut as a lyricist by writing the lyrics of the dubbed songs for this film. The first film in which he wrote lyrics for original music was "Rangeela" (1995).[1]
  • The release of this film was marred by controversies. The film's theme of love between a Hindu man and Muslim woman, with the Babri masjid demolition in the backdrop, offended various religious and political groups. To assuage the concerns of Bal Thackeray, the Shiv Sena leader on whom a character in the film was based, Mani Ratnam had shown the film to him. Thackeray had asked for some cuts in the film which the director had accepted. The film triggered riots in Nagpur, Bhopal and Hyderabad and was consequently banned in these cities. Death threats were made against Amitabh Bachchan whose production company released the film's Hindi version. Mani Ratnam was injured after he was attacked with homemade bombs at his home in Madras. The police had suspected a radical Muslim group of the attack.[2][3]

    Song

  • Ek Ho Gaye Hum Aur Tum (Hamma) - A recreated version of this song was used in the film "OK Jaanu" (2017).[4]
