Trivia

    Album

  • The film's premise was likely inspired by the hit Hindi film "Kismet" (1943). Amirbai Karnataki, who sang several songs in the 1943 film, played the mother of Shammi Kapoor's character in this film.[1]
  • This was Shammi Kapoor's last film with Madhubala. He had started his film career with her in the film "Rail Ka Dibba" (1953) and worked with her again in "Naqab" (1955). According to Kapoor, he had been smitten by Madhubala and had even proposed to her. However, the actress was involved with Dilip Kumar at the time and had turned him down. In an interview, Kapoor said that Madhubala would often tell him during the making of "Rail Ka Dibba" (1953) that he was too thin and that he needed to put on weight. However, eight years later, during the making of this film, she told him that he had gotten "fat"![2][3][MR15]

    Song

  • Dheere Chal Dheere Chal Ae Bheegi Hawa - Shammi Kapoor's character was supposed to sing this song to Madhubala's character who was supposed to close her eyes, pretending to be asleep. However, during the song's shooting, Madhubala would keep an eye open and watch Kapoor enact the song. When he complained that she was distracting him, Madhubala said, "I can't help it Shammi! I am fascinated by what you are doing... the way you are enacting the song. Where do you learn all this?".[MR15]
  • Mujhe Apna Yaar Bana Lo - I - The mukhda of this song had the words "phir dekho maza pyar ka" in the 78 rpm records. This line was replaced by "phir ho jaoon sansar ka" in the film due to the Censor Board's objection.
  • Aaiga Aaiga Aaiga Yeh Kya Ho Gaya - The tune of this song's mukhda was inspired by the song "Stupid Cupid" written by Howard Greenfield and Neil Sedaka. "Stupid Cupid" is best known for the version recorded by Connie Francis in 1958.[4]
