Trivia

    Album

  • This was the Hindi-dubbed version of the critically-acclaimed Malayalam film "Chemmeen" (1965), based on a novel of the same name by Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai.
  • Salil Chowdhury was asked in an interview how he had been able to imbibe the spirit of Alleppey in this film's background score despite being unfamiliar with the local language and culture. To this, the music director replied that the music was based on a Hungarian score![1]

    Song

  • Lahar Lahar Dole Re - This was the Hindi version of the Malayalam film song "Kadalinakkare Ponore" ("Chemmeen", 1965).[2]
  • Maina Ke Maina Ke Rasbhare Naina Re - This was the Hindi version of the Malayalam film song "Pennaale Pennale" ("Chemmeen", 1965).[3]
  • Pyasa Hai Man Kya Karoon - This was the Hindi version of the Malayalam film song "Maanasa Maine Varu" ("Chemmeen", 1965). Salil Chowdhury used the same tune for the Bengali film song "Naam Shakuntala Taar" ("Srikanter Will", 1979). Interestingly, while the Malayalam film song was sung by Manna Dey, a Bengali, its Bengali equivalent was sung by Yesudas, a Malayali.[4][5]
  • Sun Mitwa Re - This was the Hindi version of the Malayalam film song "Puthan Valakkaare" ("Chemmeen", 1965). Salil Chowdhury used the same tune in the Bengali film song "Shuno Shuno Go Sabe" ("Kabita", 1977).[6]
