Trivia

    Album

  • This was the last Hindi film for which Shiv - Hari composed music.
  • This film was remade in Kannada as "Preethse" (2000).
  • Aamir Khan was the initial choice for the role that was eventually played by Shah Rukh Khan. Aamir had asked Yash Chopra for a joint narration with his co-actor in the film, Sunny Deol. The director had agreed initially but later called Aamir to tell him that he was out of the film. Aamir decided after that experience that he would never work for Yash Chopra again. Shah Rukh, on the other hand, featured in every Yash Chopra film after this. According to Yash Chopra though, Aamir had dropped out of the film because he had not wanted to play a negative role.[1]
  • It was Uday Chopra and Hrithik Roshan who, inspired by the thriller "Dead Calm" (1989), had suggested the idea for this film to Yash Chopra.[2]
  • It was reported that Sunny Deol wasn't happy with how his role in this film had panned out compared to Shah Rukh Khan's. This was his last film with Yash Chopra.
  • Yash Chopra hadn't been particularly impressed with Shah Rukh Khan and had signed him for this film only after several actors had declined to play the negative role. Even Shah Rukh wasn't keen to do the film but signed up because no one else was taking it up.[3]

    Song

  • Tu Mere Saamne Main Tere Saamne - Anand Bakshi may have adapted Firaq Gorakhpuri's popular couplet - "Tum mukhatib bhi ho qareeb bhi ho / Tum ko dekhen ki tum se baat karen" - for the opening lines of this song.
  • Ang Se Ang Lagana - In this Holi song, Shiv - Hari used a line from another Holi song they had composed for "Silsila"(1981), "Rang Barse".
