Trivia

    Album

  • This was a sequel to the film "Ishqiya" (2010). Both films were directed by Abhishek Chaubey, had Vishal Bhardwaj's music and Gulzar's lyrics, and featured Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi in lead roles.[1]
  • This film was inspired by the Urdu short story "Lihaaf" by Ismat Chughtai. First published in 1942, the story had attracted a lot of criticism for purportedly depicting lesbianism. Charges of obscenity were filed against her for this story and against Saadat Hasan Manto for his story "Bu". After a year-long trial in Lahore, in which the two writers defended themselves, both Chughtai and Manto were acquitted. The film "Fire" (1996) was also inspired by "Lihaaf".[2][3]
  • This was Madhuri Dixit's first Hindi film in a lead role after she relocated to Indian in 2011. She had taken a long break from films in the 2000s after getting married to Dr. Shrikant Nene in 1999 and moving to be with him in the US.
  • Huma Qureshi replaced Kangna Ranaut for the film's second female lead role.[4]
  • The mushaira scene in the film featured poems by Dr. Bashir Badr. Some of the shairs in the scene were recited by real-life poets Anwar Jalalpuri, Nawaz Deobandi, Gyan Prakash, Manzar Bhopali, and Javed Arshi.

    Song

  • Hamri Atariya Pe - This song was based on Begum Akhtar's popular dadra "Hamri Atariya Pe Aao". Vishal Bhardwaj had originally thought of recording a new rendition of the same dadra but eventually decided on an adaptation. The dadra was also adapted by Salim - Sulaiman for the song "Aiyo Ji" ("Satyagraha", 2013).[5][6]
  • Zabaan Jale Hai - This audio release version of this song, sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, did not appear in the film. The version that appeared in the film was sung by Raju Singh and did not have any instruments.[7]
  • Jagaave Saari Raina - Pandit Birju Maharaj performed the "bol" in this song and also choreographed Madhuri Dixit's dance in the song sequence.
  • Kya Hoga - This was singer Jazim Sharma's debut Hindi film song.
