Trivia

    Album

  • This film's director, P.C. Barua, adapted Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel of the same name in three languages - Bengali, Hindi and Assamese. In the original Bengali film, P.C. Barua himself played the lead role. When Sanjay Leela Bhansali adapted the same novel for his 2002 film, he paid tribute to "the genius of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, P.C. Barua, and Bimal Roy". Roy's film adaptation of the novel was released in 1955.[1][2]
  • The success of this film launched K.L. Saigal as the first ever Hindi film superstar. Saigal also played a cameo in the Bengali version of this film.
  • This film featured a song, "Piya Bin Naahi Aavat Chain", sung by K.L. Saigal, which did not appear on the audio record. Saigal had picked up this song from Ustad Abdul Karim Khan, who made this Raag Jhinjhoti thumri famous. It is said that when the film came out, the Ustad went to check out the much talked about rendition of "Piya Bin..." by Saigal and was moved to tears by it.[3][4]
