Trivia

    Album

  • The film was based on the book "The Fault In Our Stars" (2012) by John Green and its screenplay adaptation by Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber for a 2014 Hollywood film of the same title.
  • This was the directorial debut of the casting director and actor Mukesh Chhabra.
  • This was actor Sushant Singh Rajput's last released film. It was released directly on Hotstar about a month after he died by suicide on June 14 2020. The film opened with a shot of the actor and a quote from one of his social media posts - "Perhaps, the difference between what is miserable, and that, which is spectacular, lies in the leap of faith... #selfmusing". It ended with a montage of his photographs and a message - "Sushant, you will always be missed!!!".
  • The film was a long time in the making. Fox Star Studios announced in 2014 that they would be adapting the bestselling book "The Fault In Our Stars" (2012) for a Hindi film. Between 2014 and 2018, it went through several changes in cast and crew. Filmmakers Homi Adajania, Mohit Suri, and Shashank Khaitan and actors Varun Dhawan, Deepika Padukone, Aditya Roy Kapur, Alia Bhatt, Ishan Khatter, and Janhvi Kapoor were reportedly associated with the film at various points. It finally went on the floors in June 2018 with Mukesh Chhabra as the director, Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjana Sanghi in leading roles, and the title "Kizie Aur Manny". Its title was changed in February 2019 to the title of a song recorded for it. The film's planned theatrical release in November 2019 was put off due to delays in post-production work. The outbreak of the COVID pandemic further delayed the release. The film was eventually released directly on Hotstar in July 2020.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]
  • This was Sanjana Sanghi's first Hindi film in a lead role. She had debuted as a 15-year-old in "Rockstar" (2011).[9]
  • Fox Star Studios suspended director Mukesh Chhabra after charges of sexual misconduct against him surfaced in October 2018. He was reinstated about a month later after their internal inquiry found no evidence to substantiate the allegations.[10][11]
  • Sony Music India released a video tribute to Sushant Singh Rajput two days before the film's release on Hotstar. The video included messages from the artists involved in the soundtrack album, snippets of the recorded songs, and performances by some of the artists.[12]

    Song

  • Dil Bechara Friend Zone Ka Maara - This song was shot in a single continuous take. Choreographer Farah Khan did not accept any fee for her work in it.[13]
  • Never Never Say Goodbye - A portion of this song was used in the film's end credits but it wasn't part of the soundtrack album. When a fan asked A.R. Rahman on social media to "complete" it, the composer replied that it was an unreleased song. It was released as a single a couple of months later in September 2020.[14]
