Trivia

    Album

  • This was director Gautham Menon's remake of his own hit bilingual film released in 2010. The bilingual film was titled "Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa" in Tamil and "Ye Maaya Chesave" in Telugu. All three versions of the film had the same music by A.R. Rahman except for the newly composed song "Kya Hai Mohabbat" in the Hindi version. The background score themes included in the Hindi film album were not part of the Tamil or Telugu albums.
  • Two versions of this film were released, each with a different climax. One version had a conventional, happy climax and was released in most theatres. Gautham Menon referred to the other version as a director's cut with an ending that made the film "a coming-of-age love story". The director's cut had a limited release.[1]
  • This was actress Amy Jackson's first Hindi film. A British citizen, she had debuted earlier in the Tamil film "Madrasapattinam" (2010).
  • Filmmaker Ramesh Sippy appeared in the film in a cameo role playing himself.

    Song

  • Dost Hai (Girl I Loved You) - This was the Hindi version of the Tamil film original "Kannukul Kannai" ("Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa", 2010) sung by Naresh Iyer.[2]
  • Hosanna - The original Tamil version of this song from "Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa" (2010) was sung by Vijay Prakash, Suzanne D'Mello, and Blaaze.[3]
  • Hosanna - An organisation called the Catholic-Christian Secular Forum objected to the usage of the word "Hosanna" in this song. They asserted that the word had a special meaning for Christians and Jews and should only be used in prayers. The group threatened to take the makers of the film to court if they did not remove the song from it before release. Music director A.R. Rahman clarified that he had gotten in touch with his friends, Christians included, about using the word in the song and nobody had objected. The film's distributors Fox Star Studios said that they would be replying to the Catholic-Christian Secular Forum and that there was no question of removing the song from the film. Interestingly, nobody had objected to the word in the version of this song used in the original film.[4]
  • Phoolon Jaisi - This was the Hindi version of the Tamil film original "Omana Penne" ("Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa", 2010) sung by Benny Dayal and Kalyani Menon.[5]
  • Sharminda Hoon - This was the Hindi version of the Tamil film original "Mannipaaya" ("Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa", 2010) sung by Shreya Ghoshal and A.R. Rahman.[6]
  • Sun Lo Zara - This was the Hindi version of the Tamil film original "Anbil Avan" ("Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa", 2010) sung by Devan Ekambaram and Chinmayi.[7]
  • Zohra-Jabeen - This was the Hindi version of the title song of "Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa" (2010) sung by Karthik.[8]
