Trivia

    Album

  • This was the first of the trilogy of comedies director Hrishikesh Mukherjee made with Amol Palekar and Utpal Dutt. The other two films in the trilogy were "Naram Garam" (1981) and "Rang Birangi" (1983).[1][2]
  • This film featured Amitabh Bachchan in a cameo playing himself. He was shown shooting for a scene for another Hrishikesh Mukherjee film, "Jurmaana" (1978).[3]
  • This film was remade in Tamil as "Thillu Mullu" (1981), starring Rajinikanth, in Kannada as "Aasegobba Meesegobba" (1990), starring Shiva Rajkumar, and in Malayalam as "Simhavalan Menon" (1995), starring Jagadish.
  • Rekha had been Hrishikesh Mukherjee's initial choice for the lead role in this film. He later felt that Rekha would be wasted in the film and cast Bindiya Goswami instead.[4]
  • This film was shot almost entirely in the bungalows of director Hrishikesh Mukherjee and producer N.C. Sippy. According to actress Bindiya Goswami, she felt at home shooting in N.C. Sippy's bungalow since it was named Bindiya after his daughter. Amitabh Bachchan later bought N.C. Sippy's house and renamed it Jalsa.[5]
  • Bindiya Goswami landed a role in "Shaan" (1980) during the making of this film. Writer Salim Khan took the actress to meet Ramesh Sippy after taking Hrishikesh Mukherjee's permission, and Bindiya bagged the role 10 minutes into the meeting. They also discussed "Shakti" (1982) which eventually went to Smita Patil.[6][7][8]
  • The film "Chor Machaaye Shor" (2002) borrowed some plot elements from this film. The film "Bol Bachchan" (2012) was inspired by this film as well. The makers of "Bol Bachchan" (2012) bought the rights for this film.[9][10][11]
