• This was Prakash Jha's directorial debut. It was a matter of chance that this film became his first. Jha had started work on his film "Damul" earlier but had not been able to find anyone willing to produce it. He later came up with the idea for this film and ran it by Manmohan Shetty during a game of squash. Shetty agreed to produce the film which went on to be quite successful. The film's success allowed Jha to produce "Damul" (1985) himself the next year.[1][2]
• Prakash Jha had originally cast Anil Kapoor and Shabana Azmi in this film. They had walked out of the film and were replaced by Raj Kiran and Deepti Naval.
• This was the first Hindi film of actor Nikhil Bhagat.
• Prakash Jha got close to actress Deepti Naval during the making of this film and married her the same year. Their marriage lasted only a few years. The couple were separated in 1987 and got divorced in 1990.[3][4]
