Trivia

    Album

  • The plots of two films released in quick succession - this film and "Baadshaho" (2017) - were set in the Emergency years. While "Baadshaho" (2017) featured a villain modelled on Sanjay Gandhi played by Priyanshu Chatterjee, this film featured Neil Nitin Mukesh playing a similar role.[1]
  • The film was embroiled in various controversies in the weeks leading up to its release. It faced protests from the leaders and workers of the Congress party after its trailer was released. They feared that the film portrayed the Gandhi family and their party in poor light. Calls were made for the film to be banned. A woman named Priya Singh Paul, claiming to be Sanjay Gandhi's biological daughter, approached the Bombay High Court and asked for a stay on the film's release. The High Court dismissed her petition on the grounds that she was unable to prove her relationship with Sanjay Gandhi. The film was stuck with the CBFC amidst all this. Director Madhur Bhandarkar was infuriated when the board suggested 12 cuts and the addition of two disclaimers. He approached the Revising Committee which cleared the film with a 'U/A' certificate and a few minor cuts. The film's troubles didn't end there. Congress workers disrupted its screening in various parts of the country and shows had to be cancelled.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]

    Song

  • Chadhta Sooraj Dheere Dheere - This song was Anu Malik's recreation of a popular qawwali sung and composed by Aziz Nazan and written by Kaiser Ratnagirvi. Aziz Nazan's son Mujataba sang this recreated version.[10]
  • Dilli Ki Raat - The composition of this song was inspired by R.D. Burman's music.
