• This film was a remake of the superhit Telugu film "Stalin" (2006) written and directed by A.R. Murugadoss and starring Chiranjeevi. The Telugu film itself was inspired by the Hollywood drama "Pay It Forward" (2000).
• A pirated copy of this film was uploaded on YouTube within days of its theatrical release. The video was eventually removed but a trade analyst estimated the film to have lost Rs. 10-12 crores worth of business in four days.[1]
• The film's working title was "Mental". A different title was finalized after Sohail and Salman Khan's father Salim Khan disapproved of it. The title that was eventually chosen for the film was inspired by A.R. Rahman's Oscar-winning song for the film "Slumdog Millionaire" (2009).[2][3]
• This was Sohail Khan's return to filmmaking after more than a decade. His last film as a director prior to it was "Maine Dil Tujhko Diya" (2002).[4]
• This was the debut Hindi film of actors Daisy Shah, Haroon Kazi, and Santosh Shukla. It was also the debut film of music director Amaal Mallik, the son of Daboo Malik and grandson of Sardar Malik. His brother Armaan Malik lent his vocals for the three songs he composed in it. Amaal Mallik had debuted earlier as a playback singer in the film "3 Nights 4 Days" (2009) whose music was composed by his father.[5]
• The film's music was released in December 2013 but it was certified and released in theatres in January 2014.
