Trivia

    Album

  • Aamir Khan met his wife-to-be, Kiran Rao, during the making of this film. She was an assistant director in this film.[1]
  • Ashutosh Gowariker was having trouble getting producers on board for this film. The film's hero, Aamir Khan, had faith in the film and saw this as an opportunity to start his own production company. This film became Aamir's first film as a producer. Incidentally, Aamir and Gowariker had begun their careers together as actors in the film "Holi" (1984).[2][3]
  • This was only the third Indian film to be nominated for the Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category after "Mother India" (1957) and "Salaam Bombay" (1988).[4][5]
  • Ashutosh Gowariker had offered the lead role in this film to Shah Rukh Khan and Abhishek Bachchan before landing on Aamir Khan.
