• This film was based on a play by the same name written by Mahesh Elkunchwar. It was made in collaboration with the students of FTII, Pune.
• This was actor Aamir Khan's first film as an adult. He was credited as Aamir Hussain in it. He had earlier appeared as a child artist in films. His first mainstream film, "Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak" (1988), came four years later.[1]
• Ashutosh Gowariker debuted as an actor in this film. His career as an actor didn't take off and he eventually found success as a director. Incidentally, it was with Aamir Khan, his co-actor in the film, that he made his first successful film, "Lagaan" (2001).[2]
• This was Amol Gupte's debut film. Years later, he would get together with his co-actor in this film, Aamir Khan, for the film he is best known for, "Taare Zameen Par" (2007). While Amol Gupte wrote the script of "Taare Zameen Par" (2007), Aamir Khan directed the film and also acted in it.[3]
• Raj Zutshi was among the many actors who debuted in this film. He became close to his co-actor in the film, Aamir Khan, and acted in several films with him, including his first mainstream film "Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak" (1988). Zutshi also went on to marry Aamir's cousin, Nuzhat Khan. Actor Imran Khan is his stepson.[4]
