- The plot of this film was inspired by Frank Capra's political comedy-drama "Meet John Doe" (1941). The Telugu film "Azad" (2000) and the Tamil film "Velayudham" (2011) also used similar plots.
- This was the only film of actress Shabana Azmi that also featured her husband as well as her father. Her husband Javed Akhtar wrote the film and her father Kaifi Azmi wrote the lyrics of the only song in the film.
- This film was first titled "Sach" and later "Satyam" before its final title was arrived at.
- This film did not feature any title credits except the presenter and the film title itself.
