Trivia

    Album

  • Jaidev and Sahir Ludhianvi had a disagreement during the making of this film over what mattered more - the contribution of the music director or the lyricist. Things got out of hand and despite Sunil Dutt's efforts to reconcile them, the two artists parted ways and stopped working together. Sahir had stopped working with S.D. Burman due to a similar disagreement over the success of "Pyaasa" (1957). Jaidev composed music for Sahir's lyrics one last time for "Laila Majnu" (1976). This happened after Jaidev was brought in to replace Madan Mohan, who died during the film's making.[1][2][MR5]
  • The film was shot extensively in the dacoit-infested Chambal valley of Madhya Pradesh. It was reported that some dacoits issued a threat of kidnapping Nargis and Sanjay Dutt who were visiting Sunil Dutt on the film's sets. Nargis and the four-year-old Sanjay left the Chambal valley the very next day. The film opened with an acknowledgement of the support of the government, administration, and the people of Madhya Pradesh. The acknowledgement was printed in English and accompanied by a voice-over in Hindi.[3][4]
