• When Bimal Roy won the Filmfare Award for Best Director for this film, he completed not one but two hattricks. His first hattrick included "Do Bigha Zamin" (1953), "Parineeta" (1953) and "Biraj Bahu" (1954). His second hattrick included "Madhumati" (1958), "Sujata" (1959), and this film. No other director has won the Filmfare Award for even two consecutive years.[1][2][3][4][5][MR12]
• This was perhaps the only film in which lyricist Shailendra had screenwriting credits. He wrote the film's dialogues. It was also one of the handful of films for which music director Salil Chowdhury wrote the story.

• Kya Hawa Chali Baba Ritu Badli - This song was filmed on Sachin Shankar, the choreographer in many Bimal Roy films. Salil Chowdhury composed many scores for the performances of the dance troupe he founded, the Sachin Shankar Ballet Unit.
