Trivia

    Album

  • This film was based on the Marathi novel "Raja Ravi Varma" by Ranjit Desai. It was a fictionalised biopic of Raja Ravi Varma, the celebrated 19th-century painter from Kerala. Raja Ravi Varma's granddaughter Indira Devi Kunjamma sent director Ketan Mehta a legal notice asking him to not release the film. Mehta refused to capitulate and went ahead with the film's release. It was released in English and Hindi. The English version was titled "Colours Of Passion".[1]
  • The film was completed and certified in 2008. It premiered at the BFI London Film Festival the same year. However, its theatrical release was delayed. There were speculations that the film was delayed due to the Censor Board's objections to its erotic content. However, director Ketan Mehta clarified that it had been withheld due to a legal dispute. The film was released in 2014 after the dispute was resolved.[2]
