Trivia

    Album

  • This film had several lead characters who had the same name as the actors playing those characters - Dev, Nanda, Kalpana, Simi and I.S. Johar.
  • It appears that this film was ghost directed by Dev Anand. While the film credited Navketan's publicist Amar Jeet as its director, Dev Anand said in his autobiography "Romancing With Life" (2007) that this was his first attempt at film direction.[MR56]
  • This was planned as a bilingual film with releases in Hindi and English. The title of the English version was "Oh Boy And Three Girls" and its songs were composed by R.D. Burman and written by Harindranath Chattopadhyay. "Oh Boy And Three Girls" was never released due to unknown reasons.[1]
  • The film opened with a commentary by the popular radio host Ameen Sayani.
  • The film was certified as "partly in colour". While it was primarily a black and white film, there were some scenes in it towards the end that were shot in colour.
  • R.D. Burman developed a background score theme in this film to compose the tune of the song "Aaja Piya Tohe Pyar Doon" ("Baharon Ke Sapne", 1967). The theme music, used in a scene featuring Dev Anand and Nanda, had Shivkumar Sharma on the santoor and Hariprasad Chaurasia on the flute.[2]
  • The film opened with Dev Anand's character appearing to follow the character played by Nanda. Both of them board the same bus, get off at the same stop, and walk in the same direction. After an argument between them, it is revealed that Dev Anand was, in fact, a new paying guest in the house in which Nanda lived. Similar sequences - of the heroine suspecting the hero of following her and finding out later that both had the same destination - were used in other films as well. One, featuring Dev Anand and Shakila, was used in "C.I.D." (1956) and another, featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Moushumi Chatterjee, was the first scene in "Manzil" (1977). This theme had a real-life precedent in the film industry. While on her way to the recording studio for "Ziddi" (1948), Lata Mangeshkar suspected a man of following her. Little did she know that the man was Kishore Kumar, on his way to the same studio to record his first-ever duet with her. Her concerns were put to ease when music director Khemchand Prakash introduced them at the studio.[3][4][5][MR7]

    Song

  • Kahin Bekhayal Ho Kar - According to Anil Biswas, S.D. Burman's composition for this song may have been inspired by Rabindranath Tagore's "Ami Tomaay Jato Shuniyechhilem Gaan".[6][MR21]
