This was the Hindi film debut of the award-winning Tamil film director Janaki Vishwanathan.
The film created a buzz for featuring a goat named Shahrukh. It was rumoured that the goat was named after Shah Rukh Khan, the superstar. Director Janaki Vishwanathan clarified that the goat was named Abu in the script. However, the goat they selected for the film was named Shahrukh and would only respond to that name. Hence, it was decided to change the goat's name in the film from Abu to Shahrukh. Vishwanathan was told at the goat market that Shahrukh, Aamir, and Salman were some of the most popular names of goats.[1]
The band Agnee allowed free downloads of their songs for the film on Facebook.[2]
The film premiered at the Mumbai Film Festival in October 2013 and got a theatrical release in May 2014.
