Anand Raj Anand is playback singer, composer and lyricist.
Born to a family of jewelers in Delhi and a civil engineer by qualification, he chose neither. Instead, he went to Mumbai in 1992 to pursue a career in music.
He struggled during his initial days in Mumbai. Though he could write, compose and sing, he decided to focus more on composing music.
In 1995 he released an album called “Babu Tiptop”. The song “Jhanjaria Aise Chanak Gayi” from this album was later used by Time Audio, in the film “Krishna”.
Then, in 1996 he recorded seven songs with Pravin Shah of Times music which was noticed by Mahesh Kothare, a prominent Marathi film director, who decided to use three of them in his film “Masoom”. The song “Chota Bacha Samajke Humko” was an instant hit with the masses. Some of his other hit songs were “Kaale Libaas Mein” and “Tukur Tukur Dekhte Ho Kya”.
In 1997, he composed music for “Koi Kisise Kam Nahin”. The songs “”Ghoonghat Mein Chera Aapka” and “Gore Gore Paon” from the film “Ghoonghat” also in the same year turned out to be hits of that time. In 1998, he worked in movies like “Tirchi Topi Waale”, “2001:Do Hazaar Ek”’, “Aakrosh”, “Qila”, “Major Sahaab” with Avdesh Srivastava, “Bandhan” with Himesh Reshammiya, and “Pardesi Babu”.
“Had Kar Di Aapne”, “Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hain” and “Bichu” showcased his work in 2000. Between 2001 and 2002, he composed hit music for more movies – “Indian”, “23 March 1931: Shaheed”, “Gunaah”, “Kaante” are some of them. In 2004 he composed music for “Plan”, “Masti”, “Wajahh” and “Musafir”.
Anand Raj Anand’s more recent works can be seen in the movies “Welcome” with Sajid-Wajid and Himesh Reshammiya, “Shootout at Lokhandwala” in 2007 and “No Problem” in 2011.
In all, Anand Raj Anand has composed music for over 60 movies, written the lyrics for and sang in over 20 of them. He composed music for pop stars as well. Kamaal Khan’s “Suno Toh Deewana Dil”, Sunita Rao’s “Ab Ke Baras” and Vibha Sharma’s “Mehandi” are some of the hit albums.
