Himesh Reshammiya was born on 23 July 1973 in Bhavnagar, Gujarat. He is an Indian music director, composer, singer and actor. Himesh is the son of Gujarati music director Vipinji Reshammiya and Madhu Reshammiya. He is known for his nasal voice and compositions which are a fusion of Indian classical and Western techno beats. Himesh studied at Hill Grange School at Peddar Road in Mumbai.
It was in school that he met his best friend Prashant Chada. Prashanth helped Himesh direct many of his music videos and is also responsible for giving Himesh a new look in the music industry. Himesh started his career at the age of 16 and produced television serials for Zee TV such as ‘Andaz’ and ‘Amar Prem’. He later went on to become a music director.
It was famous Bollywood actor, Salman Khan who provided Himesh his first big break. Salman gave Himesh the opportunity to be the music director for the movie Bandhan (1998) along with composer Anand Raj Anand. The soundtrack was a successful and Himesh continued to work with Salman in many of his ventures such as ‘Pyar Kiya to Darna Kya’ (1998), ‘Ye Hai Jalwa’ (2002), ‘Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge’ (2000) and the super hit film ‘Tere Naam’ (2003). The other noted films are ‘Aitraaz’ (2004), ‘Humraaz’ (2002), ‘Namaste London’ (2007), and ‘Ashiq Banaya Aapne’ (2005) for which he also won the Filmfare Best Male Playback Award. He has also composed music for South Indian films such as ‘Bommalattam’ (2007), ‘Kalidas’ (2007) and ‘Dasavatharam’ (2008). The year 2008 to 2010 was a bad phase in Himesh’s career where he hardly had any good releases. Bodyguard (2011) could be referred as his come back movie where his music is being very well appreciated.
Other than composing music for films, Himesh has also released a music album ‘Aap Ka Suroor’ in the year 2006 which was a huge hit. ‘Aap Ka Suroor’ is the only album after Sonu Nigam’s ‘Deewana’ to have Music videos for all the songs from the album.
Himesh started his career in bollywood as an actor with the release of his first film ‘Aap Kaa Suroor’ The Real Love Story on 29 June 2007. The movie had average success at the box office. ‘Karzzz’ (2008), a remake of the movie ‘Karz’, “Radio – Love on Air” and ‘Kajraare’ failed miserably at the box office. His forthcoming release is ‘DamaDamm’!
Himesh has also been criticized for his nasal voice and monotonous music style. He was mired in controversy when he added a song ‘Tanhaiyaan’ from Boney Kapoor's proposed film ‘Milenge Milenge’ into his own debut film , ‘Aap Kaa Surroor - The Real Luv Story’. Though the music for the song was directed by Himesh, the rights to the song remained with Kapoor and Tips Music Company. The issue between Boney and Himesh was settled in 2007 when Himesh apologized for his mistake.
Himesh was the mentor and judge for the music show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2009. He has plans to start a music school in four Indian metros called Himesh Reshammiya School of Music. Himesh has as many as 500 songs and 100 films to his credit and a string of 36 song hits. He is considered to be one of the top music directors in Indian cinema today.
