Maya Govind is a poet, dancer, stage artist, playback singer, lyricist and producer in Bollywood.
Born in Lucknow, she has worked as a teacher and with All India Radio. Her talent was discovered by Atma Ram, the producer-director. She moved to Mumbai in 1974 to write songs for the film “Aarop”. In her debut attempt she gave stunning hits like “Naino Mein Darpan Hai” and “Jab Se Tumne”.
Her next major hit came years later with “Gutur Gutur” (“Dalal”, 1993). In the 90s she wrote hit songs like “Darwaza Khula Chhod Aayi” (“Najaayaz”, 1995), “Ankhon Mein Base Ho Tum” (“Takkar”, 1995), “Lounda Badnaam Hua” (“Disco Dancer”, 1995), “Sun Sun Goria” (“Daman”, 2001) and “Gale Mein Laal Taai” (“Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam”, 2002).
Her lines have been set to music by music directors like Anu Malik, Bappi Lahiri, Bhupen Hazarika, Raj Kamal, Viju Shah, Dilp-Sameer, Nitin Mangeshkar and Anup Jalota. Her songs have been sung by Asha Bhosle, Kishore Kumar, Nitin Mukesh, Shaan, Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik, Anuradha Paudwal, Abhijeet etc.
