Music director duo Nikhil-Vinay have been around in the Hindi film music scene since 1991. Nikhil, who is trained in Western Classical music and Vinay, who has learnt ‘sugam sangeet’, were discovered by Anuradha Paudwal. She also introduced them to Gulshan Kumar and director Chander Banot, who signed immediately for the film “Pyaar Bhara Dil” (1991). The song “Chand Banke Tum Gagan Se” from the film was appreciated by audiences.
Their next notable film was “Bewafa Sanam” (1995), the music of which was to launch Sonu Nigam as a singer. The song “Achchha Sila Diya”, not only soared in terms of popularity, but remains, till date the anthem for all broken hearts! Films like “English Babu, Desi Mem” (1996), “Uff! Ye Mohabbat” (1997) and “Papa The Great” (2000) followed, but the duo did not get their due as composers. In the meantime, they composed title tracks for television serials like “Thoda Hai Thode Ki Zaroorat Hai” and “Teacher” as also composing music for private albums of various artistes, like Sonu Nigam’s “Jaan” (2000).
In 2001, with the music of “Tum Bin”, the composer duo were back in the limelight. Most of it’s songs are still remembered and sung today, including “Koi Fariyaad” sung by late Jagjit Singh, “Tum Bin Jiya Jaye” by K.S. Chitra and others sung by Sonu Nigam, Anuradha Paudwal and S. Shailaja. They also composed the title track for “Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam” (2002), which stood out among all the other songs composed by other music directors in the film. Their other films are “Aapko Pehle Bhi Kahin Dekha Hai” (2003), “Love In Nepal” (2004), “Jaane Kya Hoga” (2006) and their latest being “Dunno Y.. Na Jaane Kyun” (2010).
