Varun Grover is a scriptwriter, lyricist who got noticed with songs like “Womaniya”, “Moora” and “Electric Piya” in the two-part “Gangs Of Wasseypur” (2012).
Varun passed out of IT-BHU, Varanasi in 2003, and after a short stint as a software engineer, he moved to Mumbai to become a scriptwriter. A meeting with director Anurag Kashyap gave him the break he was looking for and he signed up as lyricist for “That Girl In Yellow Boots”. The film, however, never saw an audio release and he had to wait till “Gangs Of Wasseypur” for a real debut. Varun also writes for successful TV shows like The Great Indian Comedy Show, Jay Hind! and Oye! It’s Friday. Jay Hind, incidentally, started as an internet show before crossing over to TV. Varun also does stand-up comedy.
He has also directed and produced “Towers of Mumbai” (2008), a documentary about the festival of Dahi Handi during Janmashtami celebrations.
