Trivia

    Album

  • This film was Neeraj Ghaywan's directorial debut. It won two awards at Cannes 2015 in the Un Certain Regard section - the FIPRESCI award and the Promising Future award.
  • Caste identity was a key theme in this film. A couple of years after the film's release, director Neeraj Ghaywan came out as a Dalit on Twitter in response to a provocative tweet posted by film director Vivek Agnihotri. In the years to come, Ghaywan became vocal on identity issues and actively championed Dalit rights.[1][2]
  • This was Vicky Kaushal's first Hindi film in a lead role. He had debuted earlier in the film "Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana" (2012). It was also Shweta Tripathi's first released film. She had worked earlier in "Haraamkhor" (2017) but it was released much later.[3][4]

    Song

  • Tu Kisi Rail Si Guzarti Hai - Varun Grover used a couplet from Dushyant Kumar's ghazal "Main Jise Odhta Bichhaata Hoon" as the mukhda of this song. The ghazal was first published in his book "Saaye Mein Dhoop" (1975). The filmmakers took permission from Kumar's wife Rajeshwari Tyagi to use the couplet in this song.[5]
  • Bhor - This song was Indian Ocean's re-interpretation of a song they had originally recorded for their non-film album "Jhini" (2003).[6]
