The inspiration for this song was triggered by another song from this film, "Pardesi". When Anurag Kashyap heard it the first time, he misheard the phrase "agge yaar" as "atyachar". He later realized his mistake but wanted to use the word "atyachar" in a song for this film. Still later, the idea of the phrase "emosanal atyachar" struck him, and he asked Amit Trivedi and Amitabh Bhattacharya to make a song using this phrase. Anurag also wanted to fulfill in this song, his long-standing desire to create the kind of song he had come across in the obscure 1988 film "Om Darbadar", that used the brass band common in North Indian celebrations.[1][2]
Bandmasters Rangila and Rasila credited in this song were really the lyricist and music director of the song, Amitabh Bhattacharya and Amit Trivedi. The real identity of Rangila and Rasila was kept a secret at the time of the film's release to generate curiosity about the song.[3]
Anurag Kashyap had originally wanted to shoot this song on music director Amit Trivedi and lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya. He had to change his plans because Amit and Amitabh were busy with the film "Aamir" (2008) at the time. He had then roped in his assistant director Vasan Bala, associate director Nitin Chainpuri and actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui to play the members of the band that sang this song in the film - "Patna Ke Presley". The name of the band was suggested by Vasan Bala.[4][5]
