R.D. Burman's tune for the mukhda of the song "Kaahe Apnon Ke Kaam Nahin Aaye" ("Raampur Ka Lakshman", 1972) was adapted from an interlude his father S.D. Burman used, with the younger Burman as an assistant, in this song. The senior Burman's interlude itself used the tune of the musical piece "Romance" composed by Sergei Prokofiev. Prokofiev had originally composed this piece for the Russian film "Lieutenant Kije" (1933) and later included it in an orchestral suite of the same title. The British artist Sting also used this piece in an interlude of his song "Russians" (1985).[1][2][3]
The Nepali language line "Aunus aunus aaj ko juneli raat maa", meaning "Please come in the moonlit night", was suggested by arranger Manohari Singh. The film version of the song had a Bengali line sung by R.D. Burman, "Ke jaash re bhaati gaan baiya", which was not included in the version of the song issued on records. This line came from a non-film song S.D. Burman had previously recorded.[4]
