Trivia

    Album

  • The film was an uncredited remake of Raja Paranjape's Marathi film "Pathlaag" (1964) which was G.D. Madgulkar's adaptation of the Marathi story "Asha Parat Yete" written by Jayant Deokule. "Pathlaag" (1964) had previously been remade in Tamil as "Idhaya Kamalam" (1965).
  • This was the second film in the trilogy of spooky thrillers Raj Khosla made with Sadhana. It was preceded by "Woh Kaun Thi" (1964), whose success triggered the trilogy, and followed by "Anita" (1967).
  • The film was originally titled "Saaya" but was later renamed to match a phrase in the title song's mukhda.[1]
  • The Lake Palace Hotel, Udaipur was acknowledged prominently in the film's opening credits - "We are grateful to the management of Lake Palace Hotel, Udaipur for their co-operation in filming some of the enchanting scenes of this picture in the Lake Palaces".
  • Sunil Dutt's character was shown browsing his wedding album before the film's opening credits. Some of actress Sadhana's photographs in the album were from her real-life wedding with filmmaker R.K. Nayyar a few months before the film's release.[2]

    Song

  • Jhumka Gira Re Bareli Ke Bazar Mein - A teenage Saroj Khan, who was choreographer Sohanlal's assistant in the film, composed Sadhana's dance moves in this superhit song.
  • Jhumka Gira Re Bareli Ke Bazar Mein - The opening line of the song was possibly taken from a folk song. Another song with the same line had appeared previously in the Hindi film "Dekho Jee" (1947) but had a different tune. Another song sung by Miss Dulari and recorded in 1932 had the same tune and lyrics as this song but didn't credit any composer or lyricist.[3][4]
