    Album

  • This was the first Hindi film directed and produced by actor Amol Palekar. It was also the only Hindi film which he directed as well as acted in.
  • This film was based on the Marathi play "Kaalaaya Tasmai Namaha" by C.T. Khanolkar.
  • This was writer Kamlesh Pandey's debut Hindi film. He wrote the film's dialogues.
  • This was one of the few films Vidhu Vinod Chopra acted in before starting his filmmaking career.
  • This was the last Hindi film for which Hindustani classical vocalist Bhimsen Joshi sang songs. It was also the only time he won the National Film Award for the Best Male Playback Singer.
  • This was Bengali film actress Devika Mukherjee's only Hindi film. Her voice in the film was dubbed by actress Reema Lagoo.
  • Jaidev won the last of his three National Film Awards for Best Music Direction (Songs) for this film. The other films he won this award for were "Reshma Aur Shera" (1971) and "Gaman" (1978). Jaidev and Vishal Bhardwaj have won the most number of National Film Awards in this category for Hindi films.[1][2]
