Trivia

    Album

  • This was filmmaker Muzaffar Ali's first film. Actor Nana Patekar also debuted in this film.
  • Lyricist Shahryar debuted in this film. The film's director Muzaffar Ali was friends with him from their days as students. Some of the ghazals used in this film were discussed by them when Ali was still a painter and Shahryar a budding poet.[1]
  • Jaidev won the second of his three National Film Awards for Best Music Direction (Songs) for this film. The other films he won this award for were "Reshma Aur Shera" (1971) and "Ankahee" (1984). Jaidev and Vishal Bhardwaj have won the most number of National Film Awards in this category for Hindi films.[2][3]
  • Jaidev composed and recorded all songs for this film in just one day.[4]
  • This was Farooq Shaikh's first film in a leading role. He had debuted earlier in "Garm Hava" (1973).[5]
  • Muzaffar Ali dedicated the film to "my mother" and "all mothers".
  • Ghulam Hasan, the character played by Farooque Shaikh in the film, hailed from the village of Kotwara in Uttar Pradesh. This was a nod to director Muzaffar Ali's roots. Ali belonged to the royal family of Kotwara, an erstwhile principality near Lucknow. Some scenes of the film were shot in the village and its acting credits included the "residents of Kotwara".
