Trivia

    Album

  • This film was inspired by the life of Hansa Wadkar, an actress and singer who worked in Marathi and Hindi films and plays. The film credited her autobiography "Sangtye Aika" (1971) as its inspiration. The book took its title from the popular Marathi film "Sangtye Aika" (1959) featuring Hansa Wadkar.
  • This film was dedicated to the memory Mohan J. Bijlani who along with Freni M. Variava had produced Shyam Benegal's first film "Ankur" (1974). Mohan J. Bijlani died in 1976, and his son Lalit M. Bijlani joined Freni M. Variava as the producer of this film.[1]
  • Vanraj Bhatia composed the music for another Shyam Benegal film based on the life of a singer after this film, "Sardari Begum" (1996).[2]
  • This was lyricist Vasant Dev's debut Hindi film.

    Song

  • Ghat Ghat Mein Ram Ramaiya - This was Hindustani classical singer Firoz Dastur's first Hindi film song in almost three decades. Dastur was one of the earliest singing stars of Hindi cinema. He gave up playback singing in the 1940s to focus on Hindustani music. His last Hindi film songs prior to this were for the film "Neki Aur Bedi" (1949).[3]
  • Mondar Baaju Re - This was Uttara Kelkar's debut Hindi film song.
