This film was an uncredited adaptation of the Russian romantic comedy "The Irony of Fate" (1976). The Russian TV film remains popular to this day in Russia and the former Soviet republics, especially on New Year's eve.
The film was originally scheduled to be released in April 2013 with the title "I Love New York". Its trailer was released in February 2013 and its music in March 2013. However, the film's release was delayed and it was reported that the film had been shelved. Unsatisfactory response to the trailer and the failure of Sunny Deol's recent films were cited as reasons for shelving the film. Two years later, however, it was announced that the film would be released in July 2015 with a slightly different title. Actress Kangana Ranaut reacted to the announcement by sending a legal notice to the film's producers, T-Series. The actress said that the film would damage her reputation and claimed that the film could not be released without her permission. T-Series had responded by saying that they had already sold the film's rights to Wave Cinemas and the decision to release the film was theirs. The film did eventually release but failed at the box office.[1]
Song
Gud Naal Ishq Mitha - I - This song was based on a Punjabi folk song popularised by the UK-based artist Malkit Singh in the 1990s. The song's antecedents are unclear. According to Malkit Singh, he had composed the song in 1981 when he was in college. The song took off when Bally Sagoo collaborated with Malkit Singh to produce a remixed version in 1991. A version of the same song was also recorded for the Hindi film "Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga" (2019).[2][3][4]
Aaja Aaja Meri Jaan - This was the re-created version of a song originally composed by R.D. Burman and sung by S.P. Balasubramaniam and Anuradha Paudwal. While the song borrowed the tune of the mukhda from the original, its lyrics and the tune of its antaras were original. R.D. Burman's song, based on a theme music track used in the background score for "Saagar" (1985), was composed for a non-film album and had featured in the promos of a 1993 film of the same title.[5]
