Trivia

    Album

  • This was the directorial debut of businessman Manu Narang, who titled the film after himself. He had earlier acted in and produced the film "5 Dushman" (1973). Narang gained notoriety when it was found that he had smuggled out of India a sixth-century Nataraja statue which was later displayed at the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, California.[1][2]
  • This was the only Hindi film of Raj Narayan, the freedom fighter and socialist leader. He played the film's titular role. He was 69 years old at the time and died shortly after the film's release. Raj Narayan is best known for his role in the events that led to the Emergency and the fall of Indira Gandhi's government afterward. He fought against Indira Gandhi from the seat of Rae Bareli in the 1971 Lok Sabha elections. Narayan lost the election and filed a petition against Indira Gandhi accusing her of electoral malpractice. The Allahabad High Court ruled in his favour in June 1975 and set aside Indira Gandhi's election. It was to counter this court ruling that Indira Gandhi imposed an Emergency in India. Narayan fought against Indira again from the same seat in the 1977 Lok Sabha elections held after the Emergency ended. He won this time.[3]
