Trivia
- This was a remake of the hit Tamil film "Saamy" (2003) starring Vikram. The Tamil film was also adapted in Telugu as "Lakshmi Narasimha" (2004) and in Kannada as "Ayya" (2005).
- The film was initially titled "Saamy" after the Tamil film it was adapted from. The title "Thanedaar Returns" was later considered. However, Sanjay Dutt was not comfortable with the idea since he felt that it would mislead the audience into thinking that it was a sequel to his hit film "Thanedaar" (1990). The film's final title was decided after a brainstorming session involving the filmmakers and Sanjay Dutt.[1][2]
