Trivia

    Album

  • This was the last film in which Talat Mahmood sang for O.P. Nayyar. Talat was keen to sing for Nayyar but the music director's preference for Mohammed Rafi's voice resulted in them not working together again. The only other song Talat sang for O.P. Nayyar was "Mujhe Dekho Hasrat Ki Tasveer Hoon Main" ("Baaz", 1953).[1][MR4]
  • Kaifi Azmi recited his nazm "Makaan" in this film. He was listed in the opening credits as one of the lyricists even though he did not write the lyrics for any of the film's songs. The nazm, whose opening lines went "Aaj ki raat bahut garm hawa chalti hai / Aaj ki raat na footpath pe neend aayegi / Sab utho main bhi uthoon tum bhi utho tum bhi utho / Koi khidki isi deewaar mein khul jayegi", was filmed on Balraj Sahni. Incidentally, Kaifi Azmi, the film's producer and writer Ismat Chugtai, and Balraj Sahni got together again many years later for the film "Garm Hava" (1973).[2]
  • This was among the last films in which playback singer Talat Mahmood acted. It was perhaps the only film in which he played a negative role.
  • The film featured a montage depicting the acting career of Nutan's character in it. The montage used footage from Nutan's other films as well as a shot from the Filmfare Award function in which she won the Best Actress award for her role in "Seema" (1955). The footage from Nutan's films included the song "Woh Chand Muskaya Sitare Sharmaye" ("Aakhri Dao", 1958) filmed with Shekhar, the song "Ae Kash Chalte Milke" ("Manzil", 1960) filmed with Dev Anand, and a shot with Ashok Kumar, possibly from the film "Light House" (1958).[3][4][5][6]

    Song

  • Raat Bhar Ka Hai Mehman Andhera - The tune of the song's mukhda may have been inspired by an older song that went "Laila Laila pukaroon main ban mein / Meri Laila basi meri man mein". The first Hindi film to feature a song with the lyrics "Laila laila pukaroon..." was "Laila Majnu" (1931) but it's likely that the lyrics and tune have older antecedents. The same tune was also used in the Hindi film songs "Medley Song" ("Mr. Sampat", 1952), "Aata Hai Yaad Mujhko Guzra Hua Zamana" ("Shri Naqad Narayan", 1955), "Nautanki Laila Majnu" ("Bhabhi", 1957), and "Yaar Kapada Shaandar Hai" ("Painter Babu", 1983).[7][8][9][10][11]
