Kavitha Seth is an Indian playback singer and part of the band called “Karwaan Group” which is a group of Sufi musicians.
She was born in the year 1970 in Bariely, Uttar Pradesh. She is a trained Sufi musician and received her post graduation in music, Sangeet Alankar from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in Delhi and she also holds a M.A in Hindi literature from the University of Delhi.
She received her training in Hindustani classical music from N.D. Sharma, of Gwalior Gharana fame, Vinod from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, and Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan of the Delhi Gharana. After her marriage and subsequent movement to Delhi she started performing in All India Radio and Doordarshan.
In her early years she performed at the Khan-Kahe Niyazia Dargah, in Bareilly which led her to many shows and performances. Specializing in Sufi style, she also combined various genres like geet, ghazals and folk songs. Bollywood film director, Satish Kaushik noticed her at one of her performances in Muzaffar Ali's International Sufi Festival concert in Delhi and offered her a chance in his film “Vaada” in 2005, marking her debut with the song "Zindagi ko Maula", she followed it up a song in the movie “Gangster” in 2006, receiving rave reviews.
She composed music in the film “Yeh Mera India” in 2009. Apart from this, she has also released many albums in Indi-pop genre and Sufi. She was awarded with a Filmfare Award, Global Indian Music Award , International Indian Film Academy Award and a Star screen Award for the song "Iktara" in “ Wake Up Sid” in 2010.
