Shahid Mallya is a playback singer in the Hindi film industry who has been active since 2010. He hails from Punjab and grew up in Rajasthan but his passion for music brought him Mumbai, where his father lived for many years. Shahid's love for music came from his father who sings and considered Mohammed Rafi his guru. In fact, Shahid got his name from the legendary singer. His father had requested Mohammed Rafi to name his son and Rafi picked his own son's name, Shahid.
Shahid's debut effort in Bollywood was Sanjay Chowdhury's “Gurbani” in “Yamla Pagla Deewana” (2010). His big break came when his friend, lyricist Kumaar, recommended him to Pritam, who had him sing “Rabba Mein To Mar Gaya” and “Ik Tu Hi Tu” for Pankaj Kapur’s directorial debut “Mausam” (2011). Both songs went on to become very popular and Shahid started getting a steady flow of playback singing offers.
Then came Yash Raj Films’ “Meri Brother Ki Dulhan” (2011) with Irshad Kamil as songwriter and Sohail Sen as music director. In that movie he sang “Do Dhaari Talwar” with Shweta Pandit. “Sahi Dhande Galat Bande” was a 2011 film for which he sang “Naino Wali Whiskey” composed by Sidharth - Suhas. Another Sidharth-Suhas composition Mallya has sung (along with Sasha Tirupati) is “Love Technology” for the film “Be Careful” (2011). He has also sung “Mann Jaage” (“Bittoo Boss”, 2012), the title song of "Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana" (2012) and "Inkaar Theme" ("Inkaar", 2012).
