When R.D. Burman had asked Amit Kumar to audition for this song, the young singer had sung his father Kishore Kumar's hit title song for "Jhumroo" (1961). The audition was in the presence of Manna Dey and Kishore Kumar, and a nervous Amit Kumar had botched it up. Burman ended up selecting Amit Kumar for the song nevertheless.[1][MR9]
The uncredited singer singing the line "O Majhi Re" in this song was R.D. Burman himself. Additionally, the word "Aur" in the song was voiced by singer Sushma Shreshtha who later took on the stage name of Poornima.
