The tune of this song's mukhda may have been inspired by the folk song "Misirlou" of Eastern Mediterranean origin. The earliest recordings of this folk song date back to the early 1900s. However, the song is probably most widely known for Dick Dale's surf rock instrumental cover, which was recorded in 1962 and used by Quentin Tarantino in his film "Pulp Fiction" (1994). Laxmikant - Pyarelal had adapted the same tune earlier for the Hindi film song "Raat Se Kaho Ruke Zara" ("Lootera", 1965).[1][2]
