This was a recreated version of a hit song from the film "Mohra" (1994). Udit Narayan, who sang the original version with Kavita Krishnamurthy, also lent his vocals for the recreation. Composed by Viju Shah and written by Anand Bakshi, the "Mohra" (1994) song itself was adapted from the qawwali "Dum Mast Kalandar Mast Mast" popularised by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Rajiv Rai, the head of Trimurti Films, the banner that produced "Mohra" (1994), said in an interview that he owned the copyrights to the song. He expressed displeasure over the fact that the makers of the film had sought permission to recreate the song from Akshay Kumar instead of him. Kumar, who had performed the original song on the screen with Raveena Tandon, participated in an event organised to release the recreated version. While the song was part of the film's original music CDs, it was removed from digital platforms later on. It is not clear when or why this was done. This may have been the result of legal claims made by the copyright owners.[1][2][3]
