Trivia

    Album

  • This film was probably an adaptation of the short story "A Double-Dyed Deceiver" by O. Henry. The short story had been adapted earlier for a silent crime drama of the same title in 1920. This 1960 Hindi film itself may have inspired the plot of the film "Zameer" (1974) starring Amitabh Bachchan.[1]
  • Actress Suchitra Sen had a fallout with filmmaker Raj Khosla during the making of this film. Sen was put up at a hotel where some crew members of the film were partying boisterously. Unable to sleep, Sen confronted the people at the party and found Khosla among them. The actress walked out of the film following a heated exchange of words with the director. She later sued Khosla for not paying the fees due to her. Khosla retaliated by filing a complaint against Sen for leaving the film incomplete. The court ruled in Khosla's favour and the actress had to come back and complete the film.[MR61]
  • The film's opening credits were presented in a sequence shot from a viewpoint inside a moving car. Most of the credits were printed above and below the windshield. Raj Khosla used a similar technique in the opening credits of "Anita" (1967).[2]
  • The film was announced with Madhubala in the lead role opposite Dev Anand. She was later replaced by Suchitra Sen, possibly because of her poor health.
  • This was a rare Hindi film that dealt with the theme of incest. Dev Anand and Suchitra Sen's characters were shown to be reunited siblings for a portion of the film. Despite this, Dev Anand's character is shown openly flirting with the character played by Suchitra Sen, much to her discomfort. It is later revealed that Dev Anand's character was only impersonating Sen's brother.

    Song

  • Dekhne Mein Bhola Hai - The tune of this song was adapted from the Telugu film song "Eruvaaka Sagaroranno Chinnanna" ("Rojulu Marayi", 1955) composed by Master Venu and sung by Jikki Krishnaveni. The popular Telugu original was actress Waheeda Rahman's first screen appearance in a song.[3]
  • Chal Ri Sajni Ab Kya Soche - S.D. Burman had offered this song to Kishore Kumar first but the singer had turned it down because he felt that it would be overshadowed in a soundtrack dominated by Mohammed Rafi songs.[MR3]
