Trivia

    Album

  • This film was adapted from the Bengali novel "Ami Se O Sakha" written by Ashutosh Mukherjee. The novel was also adapted for the Bengali film "Ami Se O Sakha" (1975) starring Uttam Kumar. Director Hrishikesh Mukherjee dedicated this film to Uttam Kumar, who passed away in 1980, in a nod to his performance in the Bengali film.
  • Rekha was originally supposed to play the role in this film that was eventually played by Rakhee Gulzar.
  • This was the second film after "Jurmaana" (1978) in which the team of director Hrishikesh Mukherjee, producer Debesh Ghosh and actors Amitabh Bachchan, Raakhee and Vinod Mehra got together. Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Debesh Ghosh and Amitabh Bachchan had announced another film "Auqaat" after this film, but it was shelved when Amitabh got injured on the sets of "Coolie" (1983).[1][2]
  • This was the last of the 9 films in which Hrishikesh Mukherjee directed Amitabh Bachchan. Their association started in the film "Anand" (1970) and included Amitabh's cameo in the film "Gol Maal" (1979).[3][4]
  • In a scene early on in the film, Vinod Mehra woos Raakhee with a poem that starts with the line "Door sunsaan se saahil ke qarib...". This poem was written by Gulzar who was not otherwise associated with the film.
