Trivia

    Album

  • The film's title was inspired by the famous Mirza Ghalib couplet "Ishq par zor nahin hai yeh wo aatish Ghalib / Ki lagaaye na lage aur bhujhaye na bane". The film opened with a voice-over of the couplet and an image of Ghalib on the screen.
  • Director Ramesh Saigal had made another film with a similar premise about a decade ago - "Shola Aur Shabnam" (1961). Both the films featured Dharmendra in the lead role.[1]
  • S.D. Burman was credited in the film's opening credits very prominently. He got second billing after director Ramesh Saigal. The frame crediting Burman carried a portrait of him holding what appears to be an award statuette.
  • This was the only film in which Dharmendra and Sadhana were paired together. Dharmendra had auditioned for the "Love In Simla" (1960), Sadhana's debut film, but was not selected.[2][3]

    Song

  • Yeh Dil Deewana Hai - Based on Kamal Haasan's request, Ilaiyaraaja used this song as a reference to compose the National award-winning song "Inji Iduppazhaga" ("Thevar Magan", 1992). Ilaiyaraaja's composition was adapted by Anu Malik for the Hindi film song "Paayalen Chhunmun Chhunmun" ("Virasat", 1997).[4][5][6]
  • Main To Tere Rang Raati - S.D. Burman had used the tune of this song earlier for the Bengali non-film song "Koi Koi Re Ghungur" (1958).[7]
